The Tough Tech problem we are solving
To limit the effects of global warming, our society rapidly needs to mitigate gigatons of carbon dioxide emissions every year. Most of these emissions come from necessary processes that are hard to decarbonize: power generation and production of commodities like steel, cement, and chemicals. Point-source carbon dioxide capture and storage is a pragmatic solution that can leverage existing infrastructure while mitigating the climate impact, but current carbon capture technologies are too expensive to be widely deployed. Solvanic is developing a new carbon capture technology that is cost-effective and readily deployable as society broadly decarbonizes.
About our solution
Solvanic’s carbon capture technology combines the best of both worlds: we leverage decades of industrial experience with traditional amine-based carbon capture systems but use a new electrochemical method to release the amine bound carbon dioxide, improving the energy efficiency and unlocking new applications. Solvanic’s inherently modular approach can be applied to carbon dioxide emitters that otherwise don’t have a viable carbon capture option, broadening the scope for global decarbonization.
