The Tough Tech problem we are solving
Critical minerals will be key for enabling the transition to a decarbonized economy, and an expansion of mining and mineral processing will be necessary. Navigating this expansion without severe environmental consequences will require new approaches for processing minerals that do not have the same deleterious effects of conventional approaches.
About our solution
Rock Zero has developed innovative processes for extracting critical materials from hardrock minerals that avoids high temperature ore roasting steps and recycles all process inputs. Our technology produces critical materials used in various industries from hardrock minerals in a closed loop chemical process that operates at low temperatures (<100 °C) and recycles both the process reagent and water. By avoiding the high-temperature (>1000 °C) roasting steps and recycling the process reagent, this process enables critical material extraction from hardrock minerals with less energy, fewer CO2 emissions, and no undesirable waste streams.
