Superconductors hold the key to scalable fusion energy, lossless power transmission, and accessible MRI machines. But today the world is limited to two unsatisfying choices. Low-temperature superconductors (LTS) are relatively cheap but require expensive cryogenics to operate. High-temperature superconductors (HTS) some cryogenic costs but are extremely expensive to manufacture and scale. On top of this, the discovery process for new superconductors remains slow, often taking decades of trial and error before a material reaches practical use. As a result, industries that could be transformed by superconductivity remain stuck with limited options and high barriers to adoption.
