The Tough Tech problem we are solving
Cell-based products (e.g., medicines, materials, and foods) suffer from one fatal flaw: costly feedstock ingredients that inhibit production at the scale and price required to unlock market adoption and climate impact. Feedstock ingredients are the main bottleneck to scale and attractive COGS (50-90% of production costs), and albumin is the single most expensive component (up to 80% of feedstock costs).
About our solution
Founded by leading scientists from Tufts University driven to unlock price parity for cellular agriculture (cell ag) products, Deco Labs develops next-generation feedstock ingredients to enable large-scale, low-cost, biomanufacturing. Our flagship product is a plant-based drop-in replacement for albumin, produced by upcycling an agricultural production side stream. Our product is lower cost and higher performing at lower inclusion rates than available alternatives and addresses our customers’ number one production cost driver. In addition to our flagship albumin replacement, we are developing low-cost plant-based alternatives to the next key feedstock cost drivers for cell ag, including amino acids and growth factors.
