The Tough Tech problem we are solving
The production of organic molecules, from pharmaceuticals, fuels, and chemicals to everyday consumer products, relies heavily on fossil carbon extraction, petrochemical feedstocks, and energy-intensive synthesis processes. This dependence creates supply chain vulnerabilities exposed to fossil fuel price volatility and geopolitical risks, and undermines efforts to build resilient manufacturing in the face of intensifying climate change. Without scalable alternatives, these essential industries remain locked into high-emission pathways that accelerate environmental degradation.
About our solution
Circe is building a manufacturing platform that generates any organic molecule from carbon dioxide, water, and electricity through an advanced fermentation process powered by engineered microbes. This technology creates the products that make up our world—ranging from high-value materials and food-grade fats like cocoa butter to biodegradable plastics and beyond—but radically decarbonizes their production by converting greenhouse gases into molecularly identical alternatives with a fraction of the energy, land, and resources required by conventional methods. We’re on a mission to promote resilience in the face of climate change while evolving how we care for ourselves and the planet, localizing supply chains and enabling carbon-negative manufacturing at scale.
