Super-insulating transparent materials that improve the energy efficiency of windows by 65%.

The Tough Tech problem we are solving

While we love windows in our homes and buildings, even double-pane windows are poor insulators. About 30% of the energy that goes into buildings is lost through windows, representing an estimated $200 billion in wasted energy each year and 5% of global CO2 emissions. Improving windows is one of the most direct opportunities to cut energy use and decarbonize the built environment, yet conventional glazing has struggled to deliver high performance without added weight, thickness, and cost.

About our solution

AeroShield Materials addresses this challenge by making super-insulating transparent materials that improve the energy efficiency of windows by 65%. Born out of research at MIT, its patented, ultra-clear silica aerogel is the most insulating transparent material ever made, enabling better-than-triple-pane performance inside a double-pane window. Added to glass, AeroShield creates a super-insulating pane for windows, doors, and skylights, with applications extending to automotive and aerospace, improving performance and reducing energy use wherever glass is used.
